Diagnostics Frequently Asked Questions

Do you offer CT scanning?
No, we do not. Most hospitals offer CT scanning, MRI imaging, which gives highly detailed images of body and bone structures for detailed evaluation.

How do I know what test is best for my patient?
Each modality has distinct advantages and limitations. All imaging, mobile diagnostic or otherwise, involves sending some form of energy into the body, detecting the energy coming out and converting the energy signal to a useful image. Efficient and cost-effective medical care requires logical use of high-yield diagnostic methods, and this is another reason for close coordination between staff clinicians and our imaging specialists to improve the process of diagnosis for your patient. Our staff is happy to help out – just ask us!!

Isn't ordering a “DOPPLER” enough information?
Doppler is a mobile diagnostic study of the veins. It requires bringing a 300 pound ultrasound machine to the patient to evaluate for clots in the veins. Slow healing ulcerations, cold feet, diminished foot pulses requires bringing a 6 pound machine to the patient bedside for blood flow analysis to the ankles. The doctor needs to be specific as to what he is looking for. Insurance carriers require symptoms to correlate with testing.

Is an ARTERIAL doppler the right test for Calf Pain, Swelling and Redness?
No, arterial doppler exams is a mobile diagnostic designed to test for circulation, symptoms of diminished foot pulses, cold extremity, slow healing ulcerations, leg pain with rest or walking. Venous doppler exams are mobile diagnostics designed to test for Deep Vein Clots which can cause symptoms of swelling, calf pain and redness.

Can a patient have pneumonia and it not show up on a chest xray?
Absolutely! It must have enough consolidation in the tissues to be detected by routine mobile diagnostic radiography.

What is “technically limited”?
Diagnostic images are abstract two-dimensional images of three dimension forms. All imaging is limited by: patient size – for the penetration of all tissues by energy, and patient cooperation – ability to position, take in a deep breath, hold the breath, and not move. Advanced aged patients have many conditions which limit optimal imaging – but we certainly do our best!

ACUTE refers to "rapid onset", severe and sharp, having a short course and not chronic.
